NMRC @ DefCon 13
The Scoop
This is the place to get your NMRC warez, presentations, and other hot info from our whirlwind through Vegas. Updating from Vegas itself, things are both exciting and sort of scary, especially for researchers. NMRC tried to do their part in sticking it to the man. A certain drunken NMRC member stole a bottle of liquor from the BH open bar, got caught stealing a second one, and while returning the second bottle (some shitty whiskey) stole some vodka.
NMRC was well represented, speaking at one Blackhat turbo talk, was asked to speak at four DefCon talks. In typical DefCon style, it was hit and miss. NMRC's panel talk went pretty good with several new tools being released and discussed. During the Q and A we spanked audience members, starting with Mudge since he was in the first row heckling. The other spankees had to sign an Ass Release Form, but Mudge was special so we spanked him with the USA Patriot Act. Losing your rights never hurt so good. BTW, we didn't get a lot of pictures of the spankings, so if you have them send them to dc13 at nmrc dot org.
MadHat represented at the DC Groups panel talk, discussing his pimping of DC214. Sadly, HellNBak never made it to his talk. Due to a disagreement with some goons, he was never given a badge into DefCon and wasn't allowed in. And we thought he just didn't show up because he was drunk. HellNBak promises a write-up very soon....
Raven on the other hand, stole the entire con. She not only did a kick ass talk called Pen Testing The Backbone, she discussed Mike Lynn's work to a packed audience. She publicly flogged Cisco and ISS, and attacked the problem as any hacker would, telling the world what The Man would have you not hear. With Jennifer Granick and the EFF in the front row, it was a proud moment for hackerdom, Raven received one of the few standing ovations ever seen at any DefCon.
